LONGFORD, Ralph (1400-32), of Longford, Derbys. and Withington, Lancs.

Family and Education
b. Calwich, Staffs. 27 Oct. 1400, s. and h. of Sir Nicholas Longford† (d.1415) of Longford and Withington by his w. Alice. m. by 24 Mar. 1416, Margaret, Margaret Melton is given as his w. in the standard peds.: Vis. Derbys. 57-58; Genealogist, n.s. viii. 18. But this is a conflation with the marriage of his gds. Sir Nicholas in 1472, and all that is certainly known of our MP’s w. is that her Christian name was Margaret: William Salt Arch. Soc. xvii. 140-1. It has been plausibly suggested that she was of the fam. of Booth of Barton in Eccles, Lancs., but no proof has been found: William Worsley ed. Kleineke and Hovland (London Rec. Soc. xl), 3. at least 1s. Kntd. Leicester 19 May 1426.
