LACON, William II (d.c.1459), of Willey, Salop.

Family and Education
2nd s. and event. h. of Sir Richard Lacon* by his 1st w.; legit. half-bro. of William Lacon I*. m., A detailed and generally-reliable 17th cent. visitation ped. identifies his w. as Magdalen, da. of Richard Wisham of Holt, Worcs., very near the property at Hampton Lovett which came to the Lacons through our MP’s mother: Vis. Salop (Harl. Soc. xxviii), 306. There are, however, difficulties with this identification. There seems to have been no contemporary Richard Wisham, and our MP’s w. was certainly not the da. of John Wisham by Margaret, da. and h. of Sir John Beauchamp† of Holt: CIPM, xxi. 515-16; VCH Worcs. iv. 404. at least 1s. 4da.
Offices Held

Attestor, parlty. elections, Salop 1450, 1455.

LACON, William I (c.1408-75), of Betton Alkmere, Salop and Stone, Kent.

Family and Education
b.c.1408, illegit. s. of Sir Richard Lacon*. educ. G. Inn. J.H. Baker, Men of Ct. (Selden Soc. supp. ser. xviii), ii. 985. m. (1) Maud (fl. Nov. 1446), 3s. 3da.; A deed of 1446 names five children born to our MP by his w. Maud: CCR, 1441-7, pp. 436-7. His first marriage must, therefore, have taken place early in his career, no doubt contracted by his father. The probability is that the bride was from a Salop gentry family; there is nothing to suggest that she was an heiress. The couple appear to have had at least one more child after 1446. A daughter, not named in the deed, was buried with her mother at Stone: J. Weever, Funeral Mons. 333; E. Hasted, Kent, ed. Drake, ii. 390. (2) by Oct. 1460, Sibyl (c.1417-bef. 1491), She is said to have been aged 24 ‘and more’ at her father’s death in 1441, but, since her eldest full sister is said to have been 20 years her senior, this estimate is to be treated with caution: C139/103/32. She died bef. her son and heir, William Ryke: CIPM Hen. VII, i. 710. da. and coh. of John Sifrewast (d.1441) of Clewer, Berks., by Elizabeth, da. of John Warbleton (d.1375) of Warbleton, Suss., and Katherine (d.1404), da. and coh. of Sir John Foxley† (d.1378) of Bray, Berks., wid. of John Thorley (d.1446) of Fulham, Mdx. and Thomas Ryke (fl.1454) of London.
