?Constable of Caldicot castle, Mon. 3 Dec. 1393-bef. Oct. 1403.

Notes

He should not be confused with John Clopton of Clopton and Redbrook, Glos., the s. of William Clopton by Anne, sis. and h. of John de la Morehall, who held lands in Kerswell, Worcs., and the manors of Apsley, Wixford and Moor Hall, Warws. and whose heir was Sir William Clopton (d. 1419), since Juliana, this John’s 2nd w., married her 2nd husband Thomas Crewe before June 1389: Trans. Bristol and Glos. Arch. Soc. xiii. 162-71; xxxii, 254; W. Dugdale, Warws. ii. 860; C137/55/46; Wm. Salt Arch. Soc. xi. 207-8. Another John Clopton, however, had an interest in Clopton and Redbrook in 1400, and he may well have been the Gloucester MP: CP25(1)79/84/5.
