Not to be confused with the John Bernard who was clerk of the King’s works Dec. 1396-Sept. 1397, and treasurer of Calais Oct. 1397-Aug. 1399, for that Bernard was always described as ‘clerk’ (see E364/33 m. F, 36 m. D; E101/184/6) and went on to have a career in the Church.
