It is likely that Strensham had dealings with the Bristol burgess, Walter Horugge, early in his career, for in October 1398 he gave a quitclaim to Horugge’s executors of any lawsuits arising out of his will.2 Bristol RO, Bristol deeds, P/AS/D/NA 26.
In February 1402 Roger Goddesley of Warwickshire entered into a statute staple with Strensham and Roger Hall, both described as merchants of Gloucester, as a security that he would pay a sum of £30 he owed them. He failed to settle the debt by the following 26 Mar., the day given to him, and two months later Strensham and Hall began legal proceedings against him.3 C241/192/19.
Early in 1436, a few months after Strensham completed his penultimate term as bailiff of Gloucester, a writ was issued to the sheriff of Gloucestershire to distrain him so that he might answer the Crown for alleged contempt and trespass against the statute of victuallers.4 KB27/699, rex rot. 33.
