yr. bro. of Sir William.CP, ii. 46-47, followed by Roskell, gives Sir Walter as Sir William’s 1st s., the source being CPR, 1436-41, p. 364. However, in her will Sir William’s mother referred to both him and Sir Walter as her ‘sons’ (PCC 23 Marche), and this relationship is further suggested by the facts that the careers of the two men ran in tandem, and Sir Walter and his issue never succeeded to Sir William’s estates. The ped. given by W. Dugdale (Warws. 762) has therefore been preferred here. m. bef. Aug. 1400, Elizabeth (c.1385-Feb. 1447), da. and coh. of Sir John Roches of Bromham by Willelma, da. and h. of Sir Robert de la Mare† of Steeple Lavington, 2s. inc. Sir William†, 1da. Kntd. 1415.
