Clement Kent, related to Samuel Kent, came of an old Reading family, his grandfather being a clothier in that town. On succeeding to his estates he joined the army, served in Portugal, and went on half-pay when his regiment was disbanded in 1712. After representing Wallingford in the 1705 Parliament he did not stand again until 1722, when he was returned, apparently as a Tory, for Reading. No vote of his has been recorded and he did not stand again. In 1726, having informed an army board that he was aged 41 with 16 years service, he obtained a troop in the 11th Dragoons, then stationed at Reading,1N. & Q. (ser. 12), v. 52, 106-7, 184; Williams, Hist. Rec. 11th Hussars, 20. going on half-pay about 1730. He died 25 Dec. 1746.
