A leader of the Flintshire Tories and a supporter of the Hanoverian succession, Mostyn followed his father-in-law, Lord Nottingham. Made a teller of the Exchequer when Nottingham joined the Whig Government on George I’s accession, he was dismissed with Nottingham in 1716, thereafter consistently voting against the Government, till he retired from Parliament in 1734.

He died 8 May 1739.
