Thistlethwayte was returned as a Whig for Hampshire on the death of his younger brother, Francis Whithed, in 1751. He and his brother Robert were called ‘the brute brothers’1Walpole to Mann, 22 Apr. 1751. by Horace Walpole for their slowness in paying the small annuity left by Francis Whithed to his illegitimate daughter in Florence.

He died 15 Oct. 1771.
