In the aftermath of the Revolution, Luttrell, a Tory who had wearied of James II’s regime, served in Ireland. According to one report he was acting as governor of the Dublin garrison in October 1689 with four regiments under his command. In 1690 he was returned for the family borough of Minehead, which he had represented uninterruptedly since 1679, and in two lists was classed by Lord Carmarthen (Sir Thomas Osborne†) as a Court supporter. He died on 25 July 1690 at Plymouth, where he was waiting with his regiment to return to Ireland, leaving estates encumbered with debts of some £26,000, as well as several legacies.3 CSP Dom. 1689–90, p. 305; 1690–1, p. 115; Maxwell Lyte, 216, 218, 220.
