biography text

It has not proved possible to identify this Weymouth MP with any certainty, and there is nothing to show that he was the man of this name who as master of Le Gabriel de la Tour was commissioned to conscript mariners and servants for its manning in the King’s service in February 1415.1 CPR, 1413-16, p. 295. Another, or the same John Arnold was planning to go overseas in the retinue of Thomas Burgh in November 1429,2 DKR, xlviii. 266. but the name was not uncommon among soldiers fighting in France in this period.
