biography text

After his only known appearance in the Commons, Jones twice attested the parliamentary indentures for his home town of Wallingford, doing so on 12 Feb. 1431 (as one of 14 named burgesses) and 23 Apr. 1432 (as one of seven associated with the mayor and bailiffs).1 C219/14/2, 3. At the court of the honour of Wallingford held in the town at the following Michaelmas, he was attached to answer Agnes, widow of Edward Stretley of Fulscot, for unjust detinue of 20 quarters of wheat, 30 quarters of barley and ten of pulses. It may therefore be the case that he made his living by trading in grain.2 SC2/212/7, rot. 1. Jones is last mentioned in August 1449, when he conveyed a plot of land in Wallingford to John Holneherst.3 Berks. RO, Wallingford recs., deeds W/RTb 105.
