Page may have come from the family of this name living at Buxted, a few miles to the south of East Grinstead. In 1380 a John Page ‘junior’ of Buxted had conveyed land at Hartfield to John Broke† of East Grinstead, the lawyer and future shire knight, with the stipulation that if Broke’s issue failed it would revert to him and his heirs; and a namesake, possibly the MP, was a feoffee of property in Buxted from 1442 until 1468.1 CP25(1)/239/74/17; CAD, v.
