biography text

No details of the career of the man who represented Bodmin in 1426 have been discovered, but he evidently came from the locality, for the clerk writing out the schedule accompanying the sheriff’s return was at pains to describe him as ‘of Bodmin’. Equally, the sureties who guaranteed his appearance at Parliament on this occasion were no less than the mayor of the borough, John Peyntour, and the equally prominent former mayor and county coroner, John Nicoll I*, one of Bodmin’s MPs in the previous year’s Parliament, who now, as a representative for Helston, accompanied Pers to Leicester for the assembly.1 C219/13/4.
