Breinton appears so frequently as a feoffee to suggest that he, like his putative son, Thomas, was a lawyer. In addition to the instances cited in the earlier biography, in 1429 he was a feoffee for John Bradley I* in property at Weobley, and two years later he was employed with Thomas Hewster*, chief prothonotary of the court of common pleas, in settling property at Prior’s Frome, near Hereford, on another townsman, John Vynter. More suggestively still, in March 1413 he was named by the elderly Herefordshire knight, Sir John Chandos†, to act as his attorney in Chancery. Although he probably died in the late 1430s, his affairs were still being wound up in the late 1450s. In 1459 William Monnington, as his surviving executor, had an action pending against a Hereford brasier for chattels worth 40s.2 CP25(1)/83/54/26, 35; C254/131/194; CP40/792, rot. 349.
