A little more can be added to the earlier biography.2 The Commons 1386-1421, ii. 514. By 1415 Chandler evidently owned a burgage with a courtyard at the north gate in the Old Port of Devizes.3 Wilts. deeds, 212B/2275. His sole recorded election to the mayoralty aside, Chandler’s standing in the community of Devizes is illustrated by his periodic service as a witness to the property deeds of his neighbours, including those of William Coventre*.4 Wilts.
