Chaunce was deemed liable to pay the tax levied in 1436 on those with an income from land exceeding £5 p.a. The commissioners in Surrey, initially unable to make a proper assessment of his holdings, eventually certified in the Exchequer that they were worth £7.2 Surr. Hist.
