Chyngford lived at Stedham, about a mile from the borough he represented in five Parliaments. In the Michaelmas term of 1422, while he was sitting in his third Parliament, there was a suit pending in the court of common pleas in which he was accused of assaulting one Henry atte Hole at Rogate and of holding him to ransom for a payment of £2. In the plea he was described as a yeoman.2 CP40/647, rot. 12d.
