A little more can be added to the earlier biography.1 The Commons 1386-1421, ii. 673-4.
As a Portsman and baron of Hastings, Courthope claimed exemption from taxation on the moveable goods he had at Wilting and Ore in the years 1415 to 1435. Later, in 1445, he also had possessions further west, in the rape of Lewes.2 E179/225/36, 50, 59; 226/69, 71; 228/131.
