On occasion, Gosselyn served as a juror at inquisitions post mortem conducted at his home town of Lewes, doing so, for example, after the deaths of successive Lords Bardolf.3 CIPM, xxii. 326, 783; xxv. 487. A merchant who traded at the staple at Chichester, he was nevertheless described as a ‘yeoman’, when named as a defendant in a plea for contempt brought in the King’s bench in Hilary term 1441.4 C241/221/24; KB27/719, rot. 50.
