A little may be added to the earlier biography.1 The Commons 1386-1421, iii. 372-3.
Following the dissolution of his second Parliament, which had authorized the King’s council to raise loans in support of the French war, Higham joined with three fellow citizens, Robert Arnold, John Weston and John Abbot II*, in advancing the meagre sum of 80 marks.2 E403/675, m. 13.
The background to Higham’s dispute in 1428 with the Buckinghamshire landowner John Cheyne I* over a bond for £100 is uncertain. The parties agreed to seek a settlement out of court, perhaps through the intervention of a fellow draper and putative kinsman of Cheyne’s, Alexander Cheyne. It is not clear whether their negotiations came to anything, for proceedings before the King’s justices continued for three further years until Trinity term 1431.3 CP40/669, rot. 421.
