To add to the earlier biography,5 The Commons 1386-1421, iii. 418 (as Hore, John II). some evidence survives about Hore’s lawsuits. He appeared in the court of common pleas in person in Hilary term 1431 to bring several pleas for debt, including one against a Bristol chapman who owed him 64s., and another against a Sherborne dyer for £10. The defendant in a third, for a debt of £14, was Hildebrand Elwell*, the grocer of Wells and London then acting as executor of Robert Hore of Bridport, probably his kinsman. Further appearances in the same Westminster court in 1435 were to sue for debts of over £26, owed to him by Richard Snelling* of Weymouth, among others. 6 CP40/680, rots. 30, 366d; 699, rot. 597d.
