Although in an action of debt brought against him and John Justice* in the court of common pleas in 1456 Roude was styled a mere husbandman, he was substantial enough to fall within the purview of the assessors of the income tax of 1450-1, when he was said to command an annual income of £2.2 CP40/780, rot. 258d; E179/196/118.
