biography text

Nothing has come to light about Richard Mynsho beyond his gentle birth, residence and civic office. No family bearing the surname has been traced, but if this was mis-spelled on the returns he could have belonged to the Minshull family of Cheshire, which favoured Richard as a baptismal name. His two elections for Carlisle in 1554, on both occasions with Robert Wheatley, suggest that like Wheatley he was sponsored by William, 3rd Lord Dacre, warden of the west march. The Journal does not mention Mynsho and he was not one of those prosecuted in the King’s bench in 1555 for quitting Parliament without leave before its dissolution.2C219/23/36; Huntington Lib.
