The christian name Thomas was a popular one in the Porter family of Gloucestershire, and this Member is not to be confused with a namesake of Newent, who was the grandfather of Arthur Porter and died before 1510. Thomas Porter of Gloucester was a minor beneficiary under the will dated 1503 of Thomas Lane’s father. Otherwise, little has been discovered about his career. Between the two sessions of the Parliament, Porter and his fellow-Member John Pakington appointed the collectors for the subsidy which they had helped to grant. Porter died on 22 Mar. 1522.1Bristol and Glos. Arch. Soc. Trans. iv. 223; lxxxvii. 198; PCC 9 Holgrave; E179/279/3, m. 23; Gloucester Guildhall 1375, f. 28.
