George Saxmundham was a prosperous Dunwich fisherman, assessed in the parish of St. Peter on goods worth £7 for the subsidy of 1568. His Membership of Mary’s fourth Parliament was an episode in his municipal advancement. He made his will on 10 Apr. 1572, leaving the greater part of his property, including three tenements in Dunwich, to his wife and executrix. Other bequests included ‘three of my best lines in the tackle house’ and 20s. to his apprentice, Henry May; the tackle house itself to William Wodde on payment of £7 to Margaret Saxmundham; and small sums to servants.
