A prominent townsman of Carmarthen, Gruffydd Williams was assessed for the subsidy in 1544 as of King’s Street, New Carmarthen; his goods were said to be worth £30 6s.8d. He was one of the freemen named in Carmarthen’s new charter of 1546, but after his term as mayor no further trace has been found of him.3E179/264/1; LP Hen. VIII, xxi.
