biography text

A nephew of Lord Chancellor Bromley and a cousin and namesake of the chancellor’s fourth son (implicated in the Essex rising), Bromley was well placed both in legal circles at Westminster and in the society of his own county, where, on the death of his father in 1589, he acquired some land. He came into Parliament for Bridgnorth, where his father was recorder, and continued to sit for the borough until his elevation to the bench, making no mark on the proceedings of the House. Described by the letter-writer John Chamberlain on 23 Jan. 1610 as ‘one Bromley an obscure lawyer of the Inner Temple’, he died 2 June 1626.2Trans. Salop Arch. Soc.
