Thynne, the heir to Longleat, allied himself in marriage with a nobleman’s daughter who was also grand-daughter to (Sir) James Marvyn, perhaps the leading man in Wiltshire after the Earl of Pembroke. The borough of Hindon lay within Marvyn’s territory and it is thus highly probable that the Thomas Thynne esquire who was returned for it in 1601 was Marvyn’s young kinsman, rather than Thomas Thynne I.
Thynne died 1 Aug. 1639.
