biography text

Marian official, Brace sued out a pardon at the beginning of Elizabeth’s reign. A colleague in the Exchequer, Roger Alford, had sat for Bletchingley in 1558, and came in for Preston in 1559. Perhaps he suggested Brace for a seat at Bletchingley in that Parliament, or the connexion may have been through Henry Polsted, who had sat for the borough in 1547, and of whose will Brace was an executor. Sir Thomas Saunders, a Surrey country gentleman, owed Brace money, and may have had a hand in the return.1E405/115 mm. 9v, 41, 48; 117. mm. 6, 30v; 121, m. 109v; PCC 6 Ketchyn; CPR, 1558-60, p. 184.
