biography text

As well as Antony, Carew owned lands in Crediton, Devon, the manor of Hackney, Middlesex, and a house in St. Giles-in-the-Fields, where, no doubt, he stayed when in London for the Parliament. Antony is some four miles from Saltash, for which borough Carew was returned to the 1563 Parliament. His name is not mentioned in the journals of the first session of that Parliament, and he died before the second, 12 Feb. 1564. Some of the Middlesex lands had been sold the previous year. The wardship of the heir Richard, aged eight, was granted to the widow and her brother Peter Edgecombe.1E150/499/2; Vivian, Vis. Cornw. 68; Vis.
