biography text
Cheyney was a minor figure in Berkshire, probably relying on his relationship with the Norrises for his election as knight of the shire in 1563. The only mention of him found in the records of the House is the leave of absence granted him on 1 Mar. 1563. He was classified as a furtherer of religion in 1564.
He died 19 Mar. 1567. The John Cheyney who was a gentleman-at-arms in 1559 was probably a Buckinghamshire cousin.
