HODGES, Richard (by 1523-72), of Petty France, Westminster and Highgate, Mdx.

Having survived various vicissitudes under Queen Mary, Hodges, originally a protégé of Sir Roger Cholmley, was, by 1559, able to secure his own election for Westminster. He was by this time a churchwarden of St. Margaret’s, where he was buried 13 Oct. 1572, having made his will the previous 22 Sept. His widow, the sole executrix and residuary legatee, was ‘to pay the Queen’s majesty such sum or sums of money that I do owe unto her Highness in her court of the Exchequer’.
