biography text

There are numerous references to Holman in the borough records before 1559 but none afterwards. This could indicate that he moved out of Dorchester, becoming in all probability the William Holman of Berwick, sometimes spelled Barwick, on the coast some 12 miles west of Dorchester, who was a tenant of the 2nd Earl of Bedford. He died there before 12 Aug. 1569 when letters of administration were granted to his widow Joan.1Dorchester Recs. 328-62; C219/24/58; PCC admon. act bk. 1569, f. 149; Hutchins, Dorset, ii. 783.
