Hyett must have been returned for Wareham through the influence of the Rogers family. Both Hyett and Sir John Rogers had voted against a government bill in the 1555 Parliament. In 1571 Hyett wrote from London to the mayor and corporation of, apparently, Melcombe Regis, as ‘your poor friend and co-burgess’ promising diligence in some cause and saying he ‘can do nothing without money’. He was one of the 12 foundation governors of Wimborne grammar school, the revived collegiate school of Wimborne Minster.
