Askewith was returned 1 Feb. 1581, at a by-election in place of Gregory Paycock who was sick, and the House allowed the substitution, unlike some others in this session. His only reported committee is that for caps on 22 Feb. 1581. In 1589 the York MPs were appointed to the committees for Lincoln (11 Mar.) and salted fish (11 Mar.). Askewith died 18 Aug. 1597. His will was dated 14 Feb. 1597 and proved 23 Aug.1York City Lib., Skaife mss; York Civic. Recs.passim; A.
