Ayshe was a lawyer whose return for St. Germans remains unexplained. He was named to three committees in this Parliament: lands of Norwich diocese (2 Mar. 1576), the preservation of woods (28 Jan. 1581) and secret conveyances (14 Mar. 1581). Though the first payment to him as recorder of Bath appears to have been made in 1582 he may have been appointed soon after the death of Edward Baber, as several payments were made to him in 1581, including 6s.8d. ‘for the writ for the burgess of the Parliament’. He is mentioned once in the journals of the 1584 Parliament, when he reported a bill about under-sheriffs, and not at all in the journals of his last Parliament.3CJ, i. 110, 120, 133; D’Ewes, 340; Som. Ayshe died 23 Sept. 1587. His inquisition post mortem shows that he possessed a considerable amount of property at Priddy, near Wells. His heirs were the four daughters of his brother John Ayshe, merchant of Bristol. Letters of administration were issued in the following year.4C142/221/110; PCC admon. act bk. 1587, f. 18v.
