This Member has not been identified. He was not a local man and so probably obtained his seat through the patronage of the 10th Lord Cobham, warden of the Cinque Ports, who had, since 1589 successfully opposed the independent faction in the borough, led by William Southland. None of the Southland party was known to be present at the 1593 election. The burgesses for New Romney were appointed to a committee on 28 Mar. 1593 for the explanation of statutes.
