Bayly was related to several Wiltshire parliamentary families and was probably returned for Malmesbury as being a lawyer with local connexions, who was resident in London. Most of the early references to him are concerned with Lincoln’s Inn, where his connexion lasted for over 30 years. He was still occupying chambers there in 1600; by 1607 he was a pensioner, and he was elected butler in 1613. On becoming head of the family in 1614 he presumably left London and moved to Monkton. He kept up a connexion with Chippenham, which his father had represented in Parliament, and where the family owned a house. The date of his death has not been ascertained.
