EVERARD, Anthony (d.1614), of Great Waltham, Essex.

Everard’s return for East Looe was presumably due to a great person at court, possibly Burghley or Walsingham. No Cornish connexions have been found and so far as is known he was a typical Essex country gentleman. He owned estates at Great Waltham and in 1583 bought the large manor of Sendon, comprising land in ten parishes, from the Gooddey family. His inquisition post mortem mentions his chief house, Cartonells, in Essex, and gives a list of farms in the county which formed the jointure of his second wife. He was one of the Essex gentlemen knighted in the royal garden at Whitehall before James I’s coronation in July 1603, but, in consequence of the longevity of his father, he was no more prominent during the new reign than under Elizabeth.

He died v.p. 8 Nov. 1614, and was buried in Great Waltham church. Three of his children were already dead, and his will, made 1 Oct. 1614, left his lands and possessions to his surviving child Ann, who later married William Maynard, 1st Baron Maynard.
