GWYNNE, John III.

It has proved impossible to identify this Member, who came into Parliament for Bath at a by-election in 1566. With one exception the Members returned by Bath during the Elizabethan period were residents and it therefore seems likely that Gwynne was in this category, although no reference to him has been found amongst the published records of the borough. The surname occurs in Wells. The will of John Gwynne of Wells was proved in the consistory court of Exeter in 1560, and a Richard Gwynne was resident there at this time.1Som. Wills from Exeter, ed.
