OGLE, Nicholas (c.1539-82), of Bolingbroke, Lincs.

Ogle’s uncle, Sir Anthony Cooke, was a strong protestant, one of whose daughters married Sir William Cecil, another Sir Nicholas Bacon, and a third John Russell, heir of the 2nd Earl of Bedford, through whose influence Ogle presumably obtained his seat at Plympton in 1563, though the marriage itself was a decade later. Ogle’s sister married first John Man, his predecessor as duchy of Lancaster feodary, and secondly Vincent Skinner, his successor in the office. Ogle died in September 1582, his will, dated 1 Sept., being proved on the 20th. Ogle left 1s. to ‘the mother church’ of Lincoln, 10s. to Bolingbroke church ‘for my burial’, and 10s. and coal to the poor at his funeral.1Lincs. Peds. (Harl.
