biography text

Oldsworth owed his return for Lichfield to his master the Earl of Essex. In July 1597 he took Burghley the accounts of Essex’s fleet, and in the following month he was acting for Essex over the lease of sweet wines. In the conspiracy of February 1601 a witness reported his presence in a room at Essex House where musketeers were ready to fire. No later reference to him has been found. It has been assumed that the ‘Mr. Oldsworth’ who sat on committees in the 1597 Parliament was William.1Vis. Glos. (Harl.
