OVERSALL, John (b.c.1517), of Hull, Yorks.

In addition to being a prominent member of the Hull corporation, Oversall was a local landowner, inheriting the manor of Elstanwyk, a mansion at Winestead in Holderness, and land in Southsomercotes and Fulstowmarsh, Lincolnshire. In July 1548 he was one of the ‘aldermen and burgesses’ who agreed to grant Sir William Knollys a tenement in High Gate, Hull, and in October 1557, as an alderman, he accompanied the mayor to London in answer to a Privy Council summons.

He was granted leave of absence by the House on grounds of sickness 28 Feb. 1559. No later references to him have been found, and no will or inquisition post mortem.1C142/60/110, 136; LP Hen.
