If the above parentage is correct, this man was the grandson of John Percy who sat for Shaftesbury in 1491, and was admitted to Gray’s Inn in 1544 at the same time as his brother Edward Percy. But he is a shadowy figure, not the only one of his name; and it is not known how he came to sit for Plympton. Some connexion can be traced with the 2nd Earl of Bedford, who had influence at Plympton. On the other hand Percy also had connexions with the 1st Earl of Pembroke, who owned lands in Islington where Percy was living in 1563.
