biography text

Sone was presumably related to the 1559 Orford MP, but his identity has not been established. He may have been the Richard Sone, merchant of Halesworth, about ten miles from Dunwich, who made his will in September 1596, proved 16 Oct. 1597. Two of his executors were his sons-in-law Francis Birkes and John Coppyn, both of whom were known at Dunwich. Whoever he was, the 1572 Dunwich MP served on two Commons committees in 1576, concerning ports (13 Feb.) and innkeepers (5 Mar.).1PCC 89 Cobham; Add. 19149, ff. 248, 252; Vis. Norf. (Harl.
