Of a family established in Warwickshire since the reign of Henry VI, Temple’s only appearance in Parliament was owed to the influence of the Sandys family, into which he was to marry a few years later. Temple bought the estate of Stowe, Buckinghamshire, in 1590 and lived as a country gentleman, purchasing a baronetcy in 1611. His will, made on 4 Feb. 1633, was proved by a younger son, Miles, on 13 Mar. 1637. Temple died 10 Feb. 1637; the heir was his son, Sir Peter.1C142/281/93, 575/142; G.
