TURNER, Thomas I, of Reading, Berks.

Turner leased from Reading corporation a house in Cheese Row, Reading High Street, where he was living by 1540. He may have been the Thomas Turner who in 1547, with his wife Margaret, paid a 6s.8d. fine in the hanaper for illegally quit-claiming 150 acres of land in Hampstead Norris, Berkshire to William Mathew. He held a minor borough office in 1535, and his career continued through the religious changes of four reigns. He received wages from the town on the only occasion he sat in Parliament. He may have died as late as 1593, when letters of administration were granted to Richard, brother of Thomas Turner of Reading.
