Hereford | 1563 |
?Member of Hereford guild of merchants c. 1522, mayor 1559–60.
Though several branches of his family were living in Gloucestershire and Herefordshire during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, little information about Webbe himself has survived. He was presumably a member of the city corporation by 1557, when he was asked to provide an above average contribution towards the furnishings needed for the entertainment of the president of the council in the marches. One of many resident burgesses who represented Hereford in Elizabethan Parliaments, he presumably died before the second session of Parliament, beginning 30 Sept. 1566, when he was replaced by John Hyde.1Hereford mss, sack 1, bdle. 1 no. 4; CPR, 1560-3, p. 285; APC, vi. 199; HMC 13th Rep. IV, 325, 328.
