Townshend no doubt owed his return for Castle Rising to his family’s local standing. Nothing of interest has been ascertained about his life in the Elizabethan period. He was probably dead by 1617, for he is not mentioned in the will of his mother, made in that year, nor in the settlements of her lands.1Vis. Norf. (Norf: and Norwich Arch.
